TOPS at SPAR is an alcohol retailer part of the SPAR group. Their brand identity is quirky and fun, and they are always ready to have a good time (responsibly, of course). While working with TOPS, I helped create point-of-sale items, leaflets, radio ads, some social media posts and assisted on the BOX SMART project with art director James Lait and Creative Director Rachel Brown, which won a bronze Loerie award for packaging design. 

 

The BOX SMART, one box, 12 ways to party. We created a multi-functional bottle-carrying box that was handed out in-store. It made transporting alcohol easier, and also offered a tangible way to interact with the quirky TOPS at SPAR brand. The BOX SMART brought the fun to the party with various group-friendly activities printed on the box, giving everyone a reason to have a good time. In short, the box that gets the booze to the party, is the party.

 

The Box gave shoppers a reason to pick TOPS at SPAR over other liquor retailers. It encouraged them to spend more than R350 (Approx. £20) to receive their Box, increasing basket size. This was an opportunity to show off the fun TOPS at SPAR character through the copy tone and design style.

During my time working with TOPS at SPAR, I helped create various social media posts, namely these thematic Valentine's Day posts. It was a competition-based series of Facebook posts where users had to guess the type of alcohol mentioned in a riddle embodying the alcohol's character. This received a significant amount of engagement and fans loved the fun take on a traditional competition.

A major part of this liquor retailer's customer-facing content is point-of-sale and other traditional print items. I helped piece together both the creative concept and the copy of a variety of in-store wobblers or shelf-talkers, leaflets and posters. All of which are written with the 'party' brand identity in mind.
